What we believe
We respect your privacy. We have no interest in selling your data, and we never will. Your information is used solely to help you volunteer and for organizations to coordinate their events.
What information we collect
When you sign up to volunteer, we collect:
- Basic contact information (name, email, phone number)
- Volunteer preferences and availability
- Shift assignments and participation history
- Survey responses provided by you
For some events, you may be asked to create an account through our authentication partner, Auth0. In those cases, Auth0 handles your login credentials and password securely. We never see or store your password.
How we use your information
We use your information to:
- Match you with volunteer opportunities
- Send you updates about your shift assignments
- Help organizations coordinate their events
- Improve our service
We may use aggregate, anonymized statistics to understand trends and improve our platform, but we have no incentive to share your personal information with anyone.
Who we share with
Your information is shared only with:
- The organizations you volunteer with (so they can coordinate shifts)
- Auth0 (only when you create an account, for secure authentication)
- Anthropic (when AI-assisted features are used — see below)
We do not sell, rent, or trade your information to third parties. Period.
AI-assisted features and Anthropic
We use Anthropic's Claude API to power optional AI features on this platform to assist operations staff with planning. When these features are used information such as your signup form responses, shift selections, and site interactions may be processed by Anthropic on our behalf.
Under our commercial agreement with Anthropic, your data is never used to train their models. Hands Up Volunteer retains all rights to inputs and outputs. We are not transferring ownership of your information to Anthropic by using their services. Anthropic acts solely as a data processor on our behalf, and automatically deletes API inputs and outputs within 30 days. This is governed by Anthropic's Data Processing Addendum, incorporated into their Commercial Terms.
Your rights
You have the right to:
- Access your data at any time
- Update incorrect or outdated information
- Delete your account and all associated data

Data security
We take reasonable measures to protect your information from unauthorized access, loss, or misuse. However, no internet transmission is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we'll update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page.
